Tamarindus Indica
Grown for centuries for its fruit, we're growing the Tamarindus as a houseplant, to appreciate its lovely, gentle foliage
Growing from a delicate woody stem, this plant produces tiny pairs of leaflets, feathery in texture. We love the Tamarindus for its sculptural shape, and think it makes for a beautiful statement plant. There's really nothing else like it - it's the only plant in its genus!
Tamarindus is a moisture-loving plant which thrives in bright light. We recommend giving it direct sun, so south-facing windows are perfect. They are tolerant of slightly drier air compared to other tropical houseplants, but grow best in around 50% humidity. We keep these plants consistently moist, only letting the top inch or two of soil dry out.
Soil is very important with this one, as their roots can be a bit fussy. We find it's important to plant the Tamarindus in a fine and well-draining soil when growing indoors, and fertilise with a balanced feed during the growing season and repot around every 2 years. This plant is not for a cool home, needing consistently warm temperatures.
