Caladium 'Miss Muffet' is a striking plant which displays pale lime green leaves speckled with hot pink splashes and pastel pink veins. The texture of the leaves resembles tissue paper, and looks almost translucent in some lights.

Native to Central and South America, this plant likes it warm and humid, and is best grown away from draughts and radiators where air can become cold and/or dry. Due to the thin leaves, we advise keeping your Caladiums out of direct light and instead give them bright, indirect light. Water when top soil is dry and keep consistently moist.

We don't recommend this plant to those with cold homes all year round, and it may become harder to care for if you are a forgetful waterer. However, if you able to keep it warm and well-watered, this is a brilliant whimsical addition to your houseplant collection, that is sure to bring a smile to your face!

These are likely to die back when temperatures drop below 20ºC consistently, but they can grow back each Spring if the bulb is taken care of during the Winter.

How to care for Caladium 'Miss Muffet'

  • Lighting: Bright, indirect light is best, avoiding direct sun. Near East or West facing windows works well.
  • Watering: Water once top soil is dry. Keep consistently moist.
  • Humidity: Thrives in humidity of 50% above.
  • Temperature: Ideal daily temperatures range between 20-26°C, with night temperatures dropping no lower than 15ºC. Likely to die back when temperatures naturally lower in Autumn / Winter.
  • Soil Preference: A loose and chunky mix, with moisture-retentive properties. We recommend the Monstera & Philodendron mix.
  • Good to Know: When grown in the UK, these plants act as Annuals, meaning they are likely to die back when temperatures drop. If you keep the bulb, you will be able to grow them back each Spring.

Why Caladium 'Miss Muffet' is our plant of the month

Perhaps we should've made them Plant of the Month sooner, but we think Caladiums are best enjoyed in Summer, when the plants are large and established, showing off what they're best at showing off - colour and pattern. It is hard to believe these are real, and sometimes we don't like those kind of plants, cause we don't like people questioning whether we sell plastic plants!! But plants were around a long time before plastic, so let's not get it confused. We are lucky to experience so much colour, texture, and naturally occuring patterns! Just like we are lucky to be able to pick fruit from a tree or eat fresh herbs, or rest our hands on fresh, spongy moss, or watch bees visit our gardens. It's not there for us, but we can enjoy it, take part in it and take care of it. Caladiums remind us of this sentiment, and a plant which reminds us of the bounty of what nature can offer, is worth celebrating.
