Peperomia Argyreia
All profits from this plant will be donated to Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) 🇵🇸🍉
Peperomias are from the Piperaceae family (aka the pepper family) which is the same family we get peppercorns from. The flowers on the Watermelon Peperomia are nothing to write home about and you won't find this plant bearing any fruit, but the stripy foliage definitely makes up for it! This plant is guaranteed to stand out in your plant collection with its watermelon-esque leaves offering something completely unique.
Found growing on forest floors in the northern regions of South America, this peperomia is happiest in dappled sunlight and direct sun should be avoided, as this will scorch the leaves. Peperomias love humidity, and will grow their healthiest if kept away from dry air from radiators and draughts. A kitchen or a bathroom, where it’s naturally more humid, may be the perfect spot to place this striking plant, as long as those rooms don't get too cold. The Watermelon Peperomia thrives in temperatures of around 18°C to 26°C, and anything under 13°C should be avoided.
Watering should be generous but the top layer of soil should feel dry between those waterings. Peperomias have a very compact growth habit, which can easily rot if water is trapped near the base, so to stop this from happening, we recommend a houseplant soil with added sand and fine bark to create a looser soil mix, perfect for this fine-rooted plant.
