The Calathea 'Network' may not look like much from far away but close up it is a delight of pattern and texture. Bright green leaves, leathery in texture and crinkled in shape, showcase a pattern which almost looks digital (think the Matrix), raised on top of the leaf surface, as if they are embossed.

Native to South America, growing under the canopy in the humid rainforests of Espírito Santo in Brazil, this is a low light tolerant plant, happiest when given warmth, humidity and consistency. Calatheas can be divas, so its best to not move them around a lot or place them in unstable temperatures. We also recommend using filtered, rain or dechlorinated water, as Calatheas are sensitive to the chemicals in our tap water.

We love the Calathea 'Network', and think its the perfect plant to brighten up a shadier corner. If you're thinking of trying your hand at a prayer plant, this all-green stunner is a great one to start with.

How to care for Calathea 'Network'

  • Lighting: Bright, filtered light, avoid direct sun. North facing windowsills are best, or pulled back from an East or West.
  • Watering: Water once top inch of soil is dry. Do not let the pot dry out completely.
  • Humidity: Benefits from a boost of humidity. Avoid radiators and cold draughts.
  • Temperature: Cannot tolerate temperature and humidity fluctuations. Keep at around 18-24°C for happy growth.
  • Soil Preference: Moisture retention is key. We recommend the Calathea & Maranta mix.
  • Good to Know: Can be sensitive to tap water, which can cause crisping on the leaf tips. Rain or filtered water is always preferred.

How We Care For Our Plants

Here at The Watered Garden, we treat every plant like it’s part of our own collection at home. While in our care, each plant gets daily spot checks, the right amount of watering, and continuous monitoring for any pests or diseases. We clean leaves, repot when necessary, and make sure they’re in perfect shape before they reach you. It’s our way of ensuring that every plant you bring home is happy, healthy, and will continue to be that way for years to come.
