Pilea Depressa
Pilea Depressa is a teeny-tiny trailing wonder, with delicate round leaves that grow along thin, sprawling stems. It creates a soft, textured mat of green that’s perfect for tumbling over the edges of pots or weaving through a terrarium. It’s fast-growing, charmingly wild, and gives off a lot of fairy garden energy.
Native to Central and South America, this Pilea loves humidity and soft, dappled light - imagine it crawling along the forest floor. Keep the soil lightly moist, but avoid waterlogging, and give it a bit of room to stretch out. If it starts to get too leggy, just give it a little haircut, it’ll bounce back with even more lush growth.
We pop this one in terrariums all the time, where it creeps and trails beautifully around other plants. It’s also lovely in a small hanging pot or perched high on a shelf.
