Native to South-East Asia, the Ficus Elastica 'Shivereana' is like your classic Rubber Tree, with even more colour and variegation thrown in. The marbled patterning on the pointed oval leaves displays an array dark and mint greens, pinks and creams. It is a low maintenance plant, perfect for a sunny room or window.

Growing upwards, the stem gets woody as it matures, and if trimmed back on the main stem, will branch outwards, creating a fuller look. Ficus can get quite established indoors, growing up to 2 metres tall. They're perfect for vertically spacious areas, or, when the plant is still small, a sunny window sill.

The Shivereana likes bright light, and can tolerate a few hours of direct sun. Direct sun can cause 'sun-stressing', which in small amounts doesn't harm the plant, but can make the leaves more pink. When thirsty, they like a big drink, but make sure the soil is almost completely dry before watering again. Although they enjoy humidity, average household levels are fine.

How to care for Ficus Elastica 'Shivereana'

  • Lighting: Bright light to direct. East, West and South facing windows will suit.
  • Watering: Water once the majority of the soil is dry.
  • Humidity: Average household humidity suits. Avoid radiators and cold draughts.
  • Temperature: 18-27°C is best, avoid temperatures below 13°C.
  • Soil Preference: Loose and airy, but also moisture retentive, with both fine and coarse components. We recommend the Ficus mix.
  • Good to Know: The Ficus Elastica leaves should always be pointing upwards. If drooping down, this is a sign of under watering or overwatering.
