Perhaps the Philodendron Patriciae looks unassuming when young, but as it matures, that dramatically changes. This plant produces long, ribbon-like leaves, which ripple at the edges and cascade down as it climbs upwards. The green which at first is bright and shiny, deepens to a dark blueish green, which is matte in texture as it matures.

This rare Philodendron is native to the tropical forests of low-land Columbia, where it climbs up trees and other plants. When grown as a houseplant, it is important to simulate this support. The best way to do this would be a moss pole with Sphagnum moss, which will help it to grow properly, and allow the leaves to size up steadily and produce the rippled leaves they are so loved for.

This plant is perfect for those wanting to expand their collection with a rare and statement aroid. If you love long strappy leaves or unusual textures, you will love watching the Patrciae grow.

How to care for Philodendron Patriciae

  • Lighting: Enjoys bright, filtered light. Direct sun will scorch the leaves. Under grow lights or near an East facing window is best.
  • Watering: Doesn't like waterlogged soil, but enjoys consistent moisture. Water thoroughly once top quarter of pot has dried out.
  • Humidity: 60% or above is best. Avoid radiators and draughts. Best grown in a greenhouse.
  • Temperature: Will thrive best in temperatures ranging from 20-28°C. Avoid placing in temperatures lower than 15ºC for long periods of time.
  • Soil Preference: An chunky mix to suit the thick roots. We recommend the Monstera & Philodendron mix.
  • Good to Know: Supporting its climbing habits is key. We find a moss pole with live sphagnum moss is the best way to grow this.

How We Care For Our Plants

Here at The Watered Garden, we treat every plant like it’s part of our own collection at home. While in our care, each plant gets daily spot checks, the right amount of watering, and continuous monitoring for any pests or diseases. We clean leaves, repot when necessary, and make sure they’re in perfect shape before they reach you. It’s our way of ensuring that every plant you bring home is happy, healthy, and will continue to be that way for years to come.
