Monstera Deliciosa is up there with the most famous and iconic house plants. With huge, glossy leaves that split and fenestrate as they mature, the Cheese Plant is sure to bring the tropics to any room. It’s the kind of plant that will make any corner feel like a jungle, like our large form Deliciosa does in the shop!

Native to the rainforests of Central America, the Deliciosa naturally climbs trees with the help of aerial roots - indoors, it’s just as happy sprawling wide or growing up a moss pole. It thrives in bright, indirect light and likes the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Bonus points if you give it a little extra humidity and the occasional leaf wipe to keep it looking its best.

As it grows, it gets more impressive, developing those classic cut-out leaves that make it so recognisable. If you’ve got the space, this one really is a must have in any plant collection.

How to care for Monstera Deliciosa

  • Lighting: Bright, indirect light, with gentle direct. East or West facing, or near a South facing windows is best.
  • Watering: Wait for at least half of soil to dry before watering.
  • Humidity: Enjoys a boost in humidity, but can tolerate average household humidity.
  • Temperature: No drastic temperature drops, this may lead to black spots or browning on new leaves. Keep above 18°C for consistent growth.
  • Soil Preference: Something loose and airy, with moisture retentive properties. We recommend the Monstera & Philodendron mix.
  • Good to Know: The Deliciosa produces splits in its leaves (called Fenestrations) to allow light to pass through to its older leaves. If you've had your Monstera for awhile but it doesn't have any splits, then this may be a sign it's not getting enough light.

Here at The Watered Garden, we treat every plant like it’s part of our own collection at home. While in our care, each plant gets daily spot checks, the right amount of watering, and continuous monitoring for any pests or diseases. We clean leaves, repot when necessary, and make sure they’re in perfect shape before they reach you. It’s our way of ensuring that every plant you bring home is happy, healthy, and will continue to be that way for years to come.
