Caladium 'Scarlet Flame' is a plant for those who love rich, romantic colours. A cultivar of the Bicolour, this variety boasts deep green, heart-shaped leaves, painted pink, with red veins. The texture of the leaves resembles tissue paper.

Caladiums are native to Central and South America, and because of this like it warm and humid. They are best grown away from draughts and radiators where air can become cold and/or dry. Due to the thin leaves, we advise keeping your Caladiums out of direct light and instead give them bright, indirect light. Water when top soil is dry and keep consistently moist.

We don't recommend this plant to those with cold homes all year round, and it may become harder to care for if you are a forgetful waterer. However, if you able to keep it warm and well-watered, this is a spectacular addition to your houseplant collection, that is sure to bring a smile to your face!

These are likely to die back when temperatures drop below 20ºC consistently, but they can grow back each Spring if the bulb is taken care of during the Winter.

How to care for Caladium 'Scarlet Flame'

  • Lighting: Bright, indirect light is best, avoiding direct sun. Near East or West facing windows works well.
  • Watering: Water once top soil is dry. Keep consistently moist.
  • Humidity: Thrives in humidity of 50% above.
  • Temperature: Ideal daily temperatures range between 20-26°C, with night temperatures dropping no lower than 15ºC. Likely to die back when temperatures naturally lower in Autumn / Winter.
  • Soil Preference: A loose and chunky mix, with moisture-retentive properties. We recommend the Monstera & Philodendron mix.
  • Good to Know: When grown in the UK, these plants act as Annuals, meaning they are likely to die back when temperatures drop. If you keep the bulb, you will be able to grow them back each Spring.

Here at The Watered Garden, we treat every plant like it’s part of our own collection at home. While in our care, each plant gets daily spot checks, the right amount of watering, and continuous monitoring for any pests or diseases. We clean leaves, repot when necessary, and make sure they’re in perfect shape before they reach you. It’s our way of ensuring that every plant you bring home is happy, healthy, and will continue to be that way for years to come.
