Opuntia Monocantha Variegata
The Variegated Monocantha, also known as the Variegated Prickly Pear, is a really special collectable for those who love their spikes and succulents. Fleshy pads grow on top of each other to create a cluster of cacti, covered in green and cream marbling, with spikes all over. The new growth comes in hot pink, and slowly develops to the variegation this plant is so celebrated for.
Native to South America, you will find this growing as a low-growing shrub in tropical and sub-tropical regions, near sandy banks. Unlike your classic Prickly Pear, this Opuntia will only reach a max height of about 1m when grown in a container, and it will take a while to do so. Because of this, we think it is the perfect addition to your sunniest windowsill, when it can grow there for a long time, enjoying bursts of full sun and the occasional watering.
