The Sedum Morganianum 'Burrito' is one of our all time favourites in the shop, along with it's twin Sedum Morganianum 'Burro's Tail', which has a slightly longer and tapered leaf in comparison to this rounder variety.

Native to Mexico and Honduras, this succulent is admired for its long, trailing stems adorned with thick, fleshy blue-green leaves, creating a stunning visual display, especially in hanging baskets. As long as they're given lots of light and their soil is left to dry out between waterings, there's not much that can go wrong with this one. Plus, any leaves that fall off the main plant can be placed on top of soil and you'll have a new baby plant in no time!

This plant is perfect for anyone who loves unique trailers. Its ease of care, makes it a dream to grow, and the fact it's non toxic to pets makes it even better! When mature, these plants are both mesmerising and absurd.

How to care for Sedum Morganianum

  • Lighting: Bright light, with at least a few hours of direct.
  • Watering: Only when the soil has completely dried. Leaves can look wrinkly when plant is very thirsty.
  • Humidity: Native to arid climates, avoid growing in humidity.
  • Temperature: Best suited to temperatures of around 15°C to 26°C, but can tolerate as low as 10°C for short periods.
  • Soil Preference: A very loose and well-draining soil. We recommend the Cacti & Succulent mix.
  • Good to Know: This plant is prone to a pest called Mealybugs. Look out for white fluffy balls in the crevices and remove with alcohol or diatomaceous earth.

Why Sedum Morganianum 'Burrito' is our plant of the month

This is one of the first succulents that Louis and I really loved when getting into indoor gardening. It's hard not to love this plant as soon as you see it. There's something about its bunched and trailing growth structure and blue-green colour palette that scratches all the right parts of the brain. Then you see a mature one trailing in the arid rooms of the Princess of Wales Conservatory at Kew and you are even more in love, forever loyal to the species and determined to grow one that big yourself one day.

Although a lot of succulents are slow growing, once this Sedum reaches a certain size, it's growth is very noticeable. In one growing season, if given the right lighting and a good fertiliser, you will see it size up dramatically.

Once its stems are cascading over the pot, why not make it a feature in your sunniest windowsill? These look incredible as hanging plants in macrame hangers or in terracotta pots where the orange tones of the pot contrast beautifully with the blue hue of the plant.

Easy to care for, drought tolerant, a steady grower, a little bit weird looking, tolerant of extreme temperatures and pet safe are all features of this one plant.. making it plant of the month for obvious reasons! It's an absolute joy to grow! This will continue to be a favourite of ours forever, you can fight us, we're not budging on this one.
