Maranta Leuconeura 'Silver Band'
This bushy and compact plant, boasts oval shaped leaves displaying a silvery centre and a deep green outer edge, with the undersides of the leaves turning purple as the plant matures. Typically grown as hanging plants, the 'Silver Band' will cascade over the pot but is unlikely to trail.
Native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil, where it grows on the forest floor, this is a plant which enjoys humidity, consistently moist soil and a spot out of direct sun. We would also recommend keeping it away from draughty windows or near radiators, as they aren't the happiest when their environment has fluctuating temperatures or inconsistent humidity.
Marantas are known for their patterned foliage and varied colour palette, similar to other plants in the 'prayer plant' family. Although the 'Silver Band' is perhaps more muted then its relatives, it still boasts a gorgeous range of deep colours and suede-like textures. For those who avoid colour in their plant collections, or more enjoy silvery-blue tones, we think this is a Maranta for you. This is also a plant your pets can appreciate, as it's not going to upset their tummies if they choose to have a little nibble!
