If you're looking for the perfect addition to your terrarium, or just in need of a stand-out plant for a small spot, the Pellionia Repens is a great contender. Growing from a succulent creeping stem, this plant produces iridescent leaves, suede-like in texture and pointed in shape. Although petite in size, the blue-green and burgundy colours it displays, make this plant hard to ignore.

Native to Southeast Asia, the Repens can be found crawling on the wet forest floor in dappled and shady spots. Its creeping nature makes it a great hanging plant and a brilliant addition to a terrarium, growing on a piece of bark or lava stone. It is also very easy to propagate - cut anywhere on the stem, and place in moss, water or soil, and see roots grow within a couple of weeks. Keep this plant out of direct light, but make sure to give it lots of humidity and a consistent watering routine.

How to care for Pellionia Repens

  • Lighting: Avoid direct sun, this plant suits bright dappled light.
  • Watering: Likes it consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water once top quarter of soil is completely dry.
  • Humidity: Benefits from high humidity. Avoid radiators and cold draughts. Perfect for terrariums.
  • Temperature: Keep at around 18-24°C for happy growth, avoid temperatures lower then 13°C.
  • Soil Preference: Moisture retention is important, as well as a fine mixture to suit their fine roots. We recommend the Terrarium mix.
  • Good to Know: Very easy to propagate through stem cuttings. The perfect addition to a terrarium.

How We Care For Our Plants

Here at The Watered Garden, we treat every plant like it’s part of our own collection at home. While in our care, each plant gets daily spot checks, the right amount of watering, and continuous monitoring for any pests or diseases. We clean leaves, repot when necessary, and make sure they’re in perfect shape before they reach you. It’s our way of ensuring that every plant you bring home is happy, healthy, and will continue to be that way for years to come.
