Purple Passion plant - which is an accurate description for the Gynura Aurantiaca - is a dazzling plant, with green jagged leaves covered in fine purple hairs that make the plant look like its glowing purple. With both colour and textural intrigue, this plant is perfect for someone who appreciates the weird and wonderful.

Native to Southeast Asia, particularly the humid regions of Indonesia, the purple passion plant will grow best when given bright light, high humidity and a consistent watering routine. You may even see bright yellow flowers emerge, which make the perfect contrast to the illuminated purple.

We recommend putting this plant in a terrarium to add a pop of colour and texture to your enclosed eco-system.

How to care for Gynura Aurantiaca

  • Lighting: Bright light, but not direct. On North facing or near East and West facing is best.
  • Watering: Wait till top layer of soil is dry, never let pot fully dry out.
  • Humidity: Benefits from high humidity, and loves growing in a terrarium. Avoid placing near heaters or draughts.
  • Temperature: 16-24°C is best, avoid anything lower 15°C.
  • Soil Preference: Something fine and moisture retentive. We recommend either the Fern or Terrarium mix.
  • Good to Know: If growth gets leggy, the plant needs more light. If leaves grow small and wilted, reduce light.

How We Care For Our Plants

Here at The Watered Garden, we treat every plant like it’s part of our own collection at home. While in our care, each plant gets daily spot checks, the right amount of watering, and continuous monitoring for any pests or diseases. We clean leaves, repot when necessary, and make sure they’re in perfect shape before they reach you. It’s our way of ensuring that every plant you bring home is happy, healthy, and will continue to be that way for years to come.
