Pilea 'Norfolk' is an interesting yet often overlooked grower, with silver and deep red quilted leaves, which make it look metallic. If that's not enough for ya, the new growth comes in a bright raspberry red before hardening to its mature, silver and grey hue.

The Involucrata is native to Central and South America and loves humidity and soft, dappled light, which makes it absolutely perfect for terrariums (we use them in ours all the time). It likes its soil to stay lightly moist, and goes dull in colour when thirsty.

Pileas are often nicknamed friendship plants because they're so easy to propagate. Simply cut anywhere on the stem, let it callous over and place it in some moist soil. It should root within a couple of weeks! An easy-going, pet safe plant, sure to add intrigue into your collection.

How to care for Pilea Involucrata 'Norfolk'

  • Lighting: Bright, indirect light, avoiding direct. North facing or near East facing windows are best.
  • Watering: Wait for top layer of soil to dry before watering.
  • Humidity: Enjoys a boost in humidity. Does best in 60% or over. Great in terrariums.
  • Temperature: No drastic temperature drops, prefers consistency. Keep in around 18°C to 24°C.
  • Soil Preference: Something moisture retentive, airy and well draining, which is suitable for fine roots. We recommend the Ficus mix, or the Terrarium mix .
  • Good to Know: This plant stays small, and only grows up to around 30cm. A perfect tabletop plant.

How We Care For Our Plants

Here at The Watered Garden, we treat every plant like it’s part of our own collection at home. While in our care, each plant gets daily spot checks, the right amount of watering, and continuous monitoring for any pests or diseases. We clean leaves, repot when necessary, and make sure they’re in perfect shape before they reach you. It’s our way of ensuring that every plant you bring home is happy, healthy, and will continue to be that way for years to come.
