In this workshop, you'll make your own kokedama - a moss-wrapped plant that’s part sculpture, part houseplant, and completely one of a kind. Kokedama is a traditional Japanese technique where the roots of a plant are wrapped in soil and moss, and tied to create a living ball that can be hung or displayed in a dish.

It’s a more hands-on, tactile process than most of our other workshops and a fun way to try something a bit different. You'll leave with a finished piece that's unique, low maintenance and super fun to make!

If you're looking for creative things to do in Nottingham, this one's a brilliant mix of creativity, skill, and mess (the good kind).

  • Time: Around 2 hours
  • Where: At our shop in Sneinton Market, Nottingham
  • What’s included: All materials including moss, string, tools, and a choice of plants
  • What to bring: Nothing! Just be ready to get your hands dirty
  • On arrival: Check in at the till, drop off coats or bags, grab a drink, and take a seat round the table
  • Take home: Your finished kokedama and the know-how to make and care for more at home

This one's hands-on in the best way, so expect to get a bit mucky. No experience needed, we’ll guide you through every step.

Can I bring someone to watch?
Due to space around the table, we’re only able to accommodate those who’ve booked a place. If you're unsure, just drop us a message before booking.

Can children take part?
This workshop is aimed at adults, but we've had people of all ages participate in our workshops before. If you’re planning to bring someone under 12, please let us know beforehand.

What happens if I can’t make it?
Let us know as soon as possible. While workshops aren’t covered by our standard returns policy, we’ll always do our best to move your booking to another session.

Do I take my kokedama home?
Yes! Your moss-wrapped creation is yours to keep, along with care instructions to help it thrive.

Where is the workshop held?
All workshops take place at our Nottingham shop in Sneinton Market.

Workshop Reviews

I booked a terrarium workshop for my mum's birthday. We had such a brilliant time. Charlie was really warm, calm and knowledgeable. We had a great time and didn't feel pressured or rushed. We were complete novices and it was worth every penny.

I attended a terranium workshop and had a great time. The lovely owner of the shop talked us through the full process, explaining why each aspect was so important and provided excellent guidance with the many questions the group had on houseplants and general maintenance.
