The Anthurium Luxurians is a distinct, reptilian looking plant, producing bright red petioles and elongated, heart-shaped leaves which are bullate (bumpy) and leathery. New growth comes out dark red and hardens off to dark green.

Native to Columbia, where it grows terrestrially (unlike the majority of Anthuriums, which grow off other plants), the Luxurians likes it humid, with dappled light and consistent moisture. This is a fairly easy-going Anthurium, which you can leave to dry out a little compared to others in the genus, but it isn't a plant you can forget about.

Perfect for those who love the weird and wonderful, this plant adds texture and colour to any plant collection. Slow growing compared to other Anthuriums, the Luxurians wont outgrow its pot as quickly as others in the genus, making it a more manageable choice.

How to care for Anthurium Luxurians

  • Lighting: Enjoys dappled light. Near an East or West facing window is best. Does brilliantly under grow lights. Direct sun will scorch the leaves.
  • Watering: Doesn't like waterlogged soil, but enjoys consistent moisture. Water thoroughly once half the pot has dried out.
  • Humidity: Enjoys high humidity, will thrive best in greenhouse or terrarium conditions, but can grow happily in regular household humidity. Avoid radiators and draughts.
  • Temperature: Warmer temperatures will lead to larger leaves. Will thrive best in temperatures ranging from 18-27°C.
  • Soil Preference: An airy and chunky mix to suit the Anthuriums' thick roots. We recommend the Anthurium & Orchid mix.
  • Good to Know: Robust, but slow growing.

How We Care For Our Plants

Here at The Watered Garden, we treat every plant like it’s part of our own collection at home. While in our care, each plant gets daily spot checks, the right amount of watering, and continuous monitoring for any pests or diseases. We clean leaves, repot when necessary, and make sure they’re in perfect shape before they reach you. It’s our way of ensuring that every plant you bring home is happy, healthy, and will continue to be that way for years to come.
