This Begonia is a true gem, guaranteed to pique the interest of Begonia lovers and houseplant novices alike. The 'Muara Wahau' boasts the classic polkadot pattern that so many Begonias are celebrated for, but we love it for the its high contrasting colour pallet of bright apple green and bubblegum pink.

Native to the island of Borneo, Indonesia, you would find this Begonia covering the jungle floor in shaded spots. It is a humidity-loving plant, grown best in warm conditions, so keeping them in terrariums or cabinets is recommended (although it can be acclimatised to room conditions).

This is pure whimsy and magic in a plant. We adore it.

How to care for Begonia sp. Muara Wahau

  • Lighting: Enjoys bright, filtered light, and does well under grow lights. Avoid direct sun as this will scorch the leaves.
  • Watering: Doesn't like waterlogged soil, but enjoys consistent moisture. Water thoroughly once top soil has dried out.
  • Humidity: Enjoys high humidity, will thrive best in greenhouse or terrarium conditions, but can grow happily in regular household humidity if acclimatised correctly.
  • Temperature: Will grow best in temperatures ranging from 20-25°C. Below 18ºC and it will struggle.
  • Soil Preference: We recommend the Terrarium mix, which supports fine root systems, air flow and moisture retention.
  • Good to Know: These are a collectors Begonia. We would not recommend this as a beginners Begonia.

How We Care For Our Plants

Here at The Watered Garden, we treat every plant like it’s part of our own collection at home. While in our care, each plant gets daily spot checks, the right amount of watering, and continuous monitoring for any pests or diseases. We clean leaves, repot when necessary, and make sure they’re in perfect shape before they reach you. It’s our way of ensuring that every plant you bring home is happy, healthy, and will continue to be that way for years to come.
