The Ledebouria Socialis, often nicknamed the 'Silver Squill' or 'Leopard Lily', is an easy care plant with a distinctive spotted pattern and a silver and purple colour palette. Perfect for a sunny window, these bushy succulents look particularly good when grown in a traditional bonsai pot.

Native to South Africa, the Ledebouria Socialis, is a bulbous plant, that multiplies by producing smaller bulbs from larger ones. This creates a clustered, bushy appearance, and makes them easy to propagate.

As long as this plant is getting sufficient light and is not overwatered, there's not much that can go wrong. The perfect blend of leafy and succulent, this plant ticks the box for both leafy plant enthusiasts and succulent lovers alike.

How to care for Ledebouria Socialis

  • Lighting: Bright light, with at least a few hours direct. East, West and South facing windows suit.
  • Watering: When majority of pot is dry. Has adapted to droughts.
  • Humidity: Doesn't need much, thrives in arid conditions.
  • Temperature: 15-24°C is ideal, but are tolerant of single digit temperatures for short periods of time. Not frost hardy.
  • Soil Preference: A well-draining and loose mix. We recommend the Ficus mix.
  • Good to Know: Too much light can cause bleached, limp leaves. Too little light will likely drop leaves.
