The 'Nora' is a cultivar of the popular houseplant genus Schefflera, also known as the Umbrella Plant. Native to tropical and subtropical regions of Taiwan and the Hainan Province in China, this is an upward growing plant which can turn into a shrub or small tree. This bright green variety produces palmate leaves with 7-9 leaflets, which are thick and leathery in texture.

Schefflera is an easy-care plant for keen growers and novices alike. Although it is very resilient and forgiving, it truly shines when cared for consistently, as it can quickly become a statement plant.

Water your Schefflera thoroughly but only once the pot is about halfway dry. Give them lots of bright light, or some gentle direct. Humidity is a bonus but these plants can tolerate slightly lower levels of 40%. We recommend repotting every 1-2 years to ensure consistent and quick growth. Feed with a gentle houseplant fertiliser in the growing season.

How to care for Schefflera Arboricola 'Nora'

  • Lighting: Bright, indirect light or gentle direct. Avoid too much direct sun. Best in East or West facing light.
  • Watering: Water when half of soil has dried.
  • Humidity: Prefers 50% and above, but avoid placing near draughts.
  • Temperature: In the range of 18-27°C is best. Avoid temperatures below 13°C.
  • Soil Preference: A well-draining but moisture retentive mix. We recommend the Ficus soil mix.
  • Good to Know: Schefflera are very susceptible to a pest called Scale. Although Scale doesn't easily spread within a plant collection like other pests can, it can be hard to get rid of if left too long. We recommend regular pest prevention treatments such as neem oil and soap sprays to help keep the Scale at bay.
