A pretty whimsical plant, made even more whimsical.. the variegated String of Pearls is a beautiful trailing succulent perfect for those with very sunny windowsills.

Senecio Rowleyanus is native to southwestern Africa, where you'll find it growing along the ground, basking in intense sun and dry air. This variety being variegated means it needs even more light than its all-green sister, so we only recommend this plant to those who have access to lots of light or grow lights.

String of Pearls can be a tricky plant as they're not as hardy as a lot of other popular succulents. The trick is to give them lots of light and water thoroughly once the soil has completely dried out. Senecio Rowleyanus has a shallow root system, so only gradually size up the pot when repotting, to avoid a small root system sitting in a lot of waterlogged soil.

How to care for Senecio Rowleyanus Variegated

  • Lighting: Bright light with as much direct sun as possible. South facing windows are best.
  • Watering: Water once soil is completely dry. Bottom and top watering both work, just keep pot size in mind.
  • Humidity: Grows in arid conditions, avoid growing in humid areas.
  • Temperature: Between 18°C and 24°C, but prefers slightly cooler temperatures in the winter. Avoid below 10°C.
  • Soil Preference: Something very loose and well-draining. We recommend the Cacti & Succulent mix.
  • Good to Know: This plant flowers! They look like little fluff balls, similar to that of a dandelion.
